It’s so exciting to see the spring flowers starting to bloom around the village. The snow drops are just going over, but the primroses are starting to come out.
I can thoroughly recommend the carpet of crocuses in the formal gardens – and of course the daffs coming up the drive.
Can anyone help with identifying this? I was walking on the moors and I went onto a country lane at Peek Moor gate.
There’s a wonderful granite wall that runs down towards Owley gate. In the wall, on one of the large granite rocks at the bottom of the wall is this symbol. What is it? And why would it be on a rock that’s been place in a wall?
On a beautiful autumn day 35 adults and children gathered to plant trees donated by the Woodland trust in the grounds of Moorhaven village, the former asylum and now the haven of over 100 families.
Organised by Trudi Bell the trees were carefully chosen to provide colour throughout the year. There is one special tree – the Royal Oak – to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee in 2012, which has been planted adjacent to Moorpark at the entrance to the village.
Wonderful home made cakes were provided for the planters to celebrate a lovely community effort.

You can see a small-screen version of the video by clicking on the links below. You can also get a DVD from me – david@roeworks.com – price £3.00, all to be donated to Crossroads, a charity for people with mental health problems, suggested by Margaret Halliday. We want to live in the country lets enjoy the clear views we can have of our night skies without light pollution!

I have been thinking for ages that it would be great to set up a car share scheme for moorhaveners and now with the price of petrol, well, it seems like it would be a good time to get it going. So, is there any interest in seeing if people could share more car journeys – from commuting to one offs to London or beyond?
(Apologies: these pictures were lost when someone hacked into the site: I managed to restore the text but not these pictures- David Roe.) I thought I’d share a few photos of in and around the village taken on my trusty … Continue reading →
During the AGM the other night, someone mentioned increased broadband speeds. I haven’t seen any increase in the last two years… I get about 1.5 Mbps download. Is anyone getting a lot quicker than that?
